Time to start decorating.....

It is that time when we all start to do our Christmas decorating....I myself am not planning to do much as I will not have anyone here at home during the Christmas season....But if you want to go here: You can make a gingerbread house........

Emeril gets the biggest BAM....


I am very disappointed by this news......I will miss his show...I have learned a lot from Mr. Bam....

NEW YORK — Food Network is kicking Emeril Lagasse down a notch.

The celebrity chef's "Emeril Live," which has been on the air for 10 years, will cease production Dec. 11, Food Network publicist Carrie Welch told The Associated Press.

"However, Emeril is under contract with Food Network," Welch said Tuesday. "We love him, we support him and look forward to a long partnership with him."

Welch wouldn't comment on Lagasse's contract.

Asked why the show was canceled, she told the AP: "The only reason would be that it hit a ton of television milestones and, you know, all good things come to an end."

The Food Network will continue producing Lagasse's "The Essence of Emeril," and he will take part in "specials and other development opportunities in the future," Welch said.

The network will also air reruns of "Emeril Live."

"I am deeply appreciative to all the unbelievable staff — many who have been with the show since the beginning — and all the loyal viewers, and the many talented guests who have appeared on the show through the years," Lagasse, 48, said in a statement provided by Welch.

"I look forward to continuing my association with the Food Network with `The Essence of Emeril,' and I have lots of new ideas cooking," he said.

YIPPIE! I'm doing the happy dance! Helio and Julianne won Dancing With The Stars .... I picked him from the very first night! What a great show! I've really enjoyed this season so much! Helio has always been Jake's favorite Indy car driver....if he ever goes to NASCAR I may be in trouble because I fell in LOVE with him on Dancing With the Stars...such a sweetheart!!!

The passing of two good women.....

Last Friday morning Eric lost his paternal grandmother, Thelma. She was in her 80's and had lived a very happy and full life. Eric told me he has fond memories of one on one time they spent at her home . And he is consoled by the fact that she was able to stay in her own home and not have to go into a nursing home. My memories of Thelma are of a soft spoken women who was a wonderful cook, created beautiful handiwork, and was much loved by her family. Here is a photo of Thelma with Ethan and Evan in Oct. 2004.


A week ago today an old friend of mine, JoEllen H, passed away from brain cancer. When I think about all the troubles in my own family I only have to remember back to all that has happened to the H's to regain my perspective....
I worked with JoEllen at the Public Library for many years. She and her family also lived in our subdivision. JoEllen had a daughter who was only 16 when she contacted spinal meningitis and never recovered. As if that loss was not enough, JoEllen's husband passed a few years later of a sudden heart attack. JoEllen was left to raise two boys alone. About a year later she found out she had breast cancer.....she fought hard and after chemo and mastectomy she went into remission for a number of years....last year the cancer returned and with a vengeance. Her suffering is over now. Her two boys have only each other for now. The youngest is still in school, so all the memorials were to help with his future education fund. Thanksgiving takes on a whole new meaning this year.......

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question.

‘Why didn’t we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?’

I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young:
I was drug to church on Sunday morning.
I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.
I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.
I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn’t put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity.
I was drug out to pull weeds in mom’s garden and flowerbeds and cocklebur’s out of dad’s fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think.
They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and if today’s children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

I'm Gonna Wash That Gray Right Outta My Hair.....

First of all, some of you may have noticed that I changed the name of the blog from Rupert Ramblings to Rupert Relative Ramblings ...this is because some folks thought they shouldn't be posting or emailing info for the blog because their LAST name is not Rupert.....Any member of the extended family is not only welcome but encouraged to share here.....Did not mean to offend anyoneToday was a great day for me.....

Cheryl surprised me with ANOTHER birthday present....a brand new "do" ....wasn't that great of her? ....I have been having a lot of "stinkin thinkin" days lately (for those of you who don't know that is what Paula Deen calls your down days ) and she wanted to cheer me up....Here is a photo of the two of us with our new look....




I did not get it styled ...just a cut and color/highlight...but I really like the color and it felt good to get rid of all the gray ....I sometimes look in the mirror and go "who is that ole' gray haired lady"...no more ..tomorrow it will be "who is that blond babe"... :) Thanks Cheryl !!! I always knew you were an amazing daughter and now you are also my amazing friend....I am proud everyday that you are my daughter and I hope I always make you proud as your Mom.
OK, so much for the gushy stuff....

To top all this off she also took me to Stacey's Lounge for lunch....This is one of my favorite places to eat...I love their Chicken Breast and Country Salad....Yum-0! And all this was in addition to the early b'day gift she had ALREADY given to me , which was a trip to the Allstate Brickyard 400 Nascar race....My man, Jeff Gordon, did not win that day but we had really great seats right in front of the pits and we had an absolutely wonderful time....Here's a photo from that day to share: ...forgive the silly looking hats, it was 100 degrees in the shade and no shade....sometimes a girls gotta wear what a girls gotta wear...




I am still hoping to hear from all of you with answers to the High School Questionnaire.....if this blog is to be successful you all need to contribute....also, Laura is putting together a book of family genealogy...and I thought these little quiz's would inspire you to give us a glimpse into where your life journey has taken you and how you see things...Interesting fodder for your great-grand kids to talk about at some future family reunion when we are no longer there.....but maybe I am just annoying everyone......If so, sorry, OK I have officially apologised to those I have annoyed.....now get over it and humor me ...it is my birthday after all :)

Creamsickle Pie Anyone


I saw this recipe online and it looked so cool and refreshing..and so yummy ..thought maybe someone else would want to try it out....It only takes three ingredients, anyone could handle that....and it looks like you really put forth a bit of effort..






Creamy Orange Ice Cream Pie Frosty: layers of sherbet, ice cream and sugar cookie crumbs make a refreshing Summer dessert.

1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) sugar cookie mix
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 pints (4 cups) orange sherbet 1 pint (2 cups) vanilla ice cream


. Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, stir cookie mix and butter until well mixed (mixture will be crumbly).
Reserve 1 1/2 cups crumb mixture; set aside. In ungreased 9-inch glass pie plate, press remaining mixture over bottom and up side of plate; prick with fork. Bake 16 to 18 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
Meanwhile, on ungreased cookie sheet, sprinkle remaining crumb mixture. Bake 10 to 11 minutes or until edges of crumb mixture begin to brown. Cool on cookie sheet, about 30 minutes.
While crust and crumb mixture are cooling, place sherbet and ice cream in refrigerator to soften. Scoop half of softened sherbet over crust; spread to cover crust. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup crumbs. Scoop all of softened ice cream over sherbet and crumbs; spread to cover. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup crumbs. Scoop remaining half of sherbet over ice cream and crumbs. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup crumbs. Freeze until firm, 4 to 6 hours or overnight. Let stand 15 minutes to soften before cutting.

High School Questionaire......

I sent everyone email with this questionnaire....hope to receive your responses soon...in the meantime, here are my answers....

1. Who was your best friend?

Gilda Morgan, unfortunately I have no idea where she is today...In fact, I was very social and had lots of girlfriends..and I have not stayed in contact w any of them......Goes to show ya how in high school you are so worried about what all your peers think of you and how unimportant it really is when we don't interact with most of them in later life.....

2. Did you play any sports?

Since I dislike sports...I think NOT....I hated physical education class....I never showed any athletic talents and did everything to be excused from P.E.

3. What kind of car did you drive?

A 1964 Buick Wildcat convertible...a castoff from my Mom....Unfortunately for me the zip in window in the back no longer worked and was held up with tape ...making the car a two-seater in winter as the back always had snow in it...and then in the spring at first sign of warm weather the top had to come down and it had to aired out for a couple of weeks or it smelled like a laundry basket of clothes left wet for too many days.....oh, and the poor car met it's demise because no one mentioned to me that you had to put oil in it more frequently than when you see smoke......

4. It’s Friday night. Where were you?

At a dance....little know fact about me...I got kicked out of the St Patricks CATHOLIC CHURCH in Ligonier because I wore a midriff top and hot pants to a Friday night dance ( I hear you laughing...yes, I once had a body that would show off hot pants and I knew it and flaunted it....shame shame )....Then we would "cruise the drag" which was basically driving around town (remember gas was around 30 cents a gallon ) which we did until around midnight (that was curfew for anyone under 18 back then), We would ofter congregate at either the laundromat parking lot to chat or all of us would park at Crockett's Dairy Mart to get cherry cokes and if we were flush a cheeseburger or my personal favorite a pizzaburger....

5. Were you a party animal?

Not really, but I had my moments. Like the time I wanted to show off for a then boyfriend who was old enough to buy us liquor...I wanted him to think I was cooler than his drinkin' buds so I drank an entire fifth of Bacardi's 151 Rum in about four big swigs to prove it.....I spent the night with my head in the porcelain throne.....The guys sure thought I was COOL
:( :( That's about the wildest thing I did....

6. Were you considered a flirt?

Looking up at the sky whistling.....remember the hot pants story

7. Were you in the band, orchestra or choir?

I took one semester of band....played ( or I guess that would more accurately be..played with ) the flute....after the first semester I dropped out as I was more interested in socializing than practicing..
CHOIR...have you ever heard me sing??..can't carry a tune in a basket :0)

8. Were you a nerd?
No

9. Were you ever suspended or expelled?

WELL....now my kids may read this and what will they think....But, honestly, yes.....for skipping school.......

10. Can you sing the fight song?

We didn't have a fight song. And I told you I can't sing and I can't remember all the words either...something like cheer, cheer for ole L-------, bring on the whiskey, bring on the beer.......a verse or two I cannot recall.....for our loyal sons go marching onward to victory..........oh sorry, maybe that was our beer drinkin fight song......

11. Who was your favorite teacher?

Mr. Dailey, who taught Government & Economics...which was a requirement your senior year, you could not graduate until you passed government and econ...not to worry, everyone who had him passed, as he gave open book tests to make sure of that....He was also our Senior class advisor .... He arranged for our class to take a senior government trip to Washington DC....my first trip in an airplane....we flew out early and spent the day doing all the sight-seeing things and flew back that night......Years later when I was an adult in the work force I realized how many hours my grandma had to work in that hot, stinky turkey processing plant so that I could make that trip..Thanks Grandma~I will always love you for that and l remember you often.

12. What was your school mascot?

The L------- Red Raiders and then after schools were consolidated the W---- N---- Chargers

13. Did you go to the Prom?

No...I was stood up for my junior prom ...and at the time devastated....long story made short..my date picked night before prom to run away from home .....I was kinda like a bride left at the alter ..all dressed-up and nowhere to go .....Then my senior year I was dating someone who was older and no longer in school ( back then your date had to be in school to go to prom )....

14. If you could go back, would you?

NO WAY!


15. What do you remember most about graduation?

Being very excited to be done with that part of my life and trying to be very conscientious of my walk during the processional, as I had broken my toe the day before.

16. Where were you on Senior Skip Day?

Well everyone went to the Lake Michigan Lakeshore Dunes back then....but I had a job and could not go....Ironic that I got kicked out for skipping earlier but didn't go ahead and skip on Sr Skip Day....

17. Did you have a job your senior year?

Yes. I worked part time Lauer's restaurant and I babysat nights for a single mom who worked second shift....

18. Where did you go most often for lunch?

I either ate the school lunch or my boyfriend Darrell brought me a Sprite and Cheetos ( that is what I would request he bring me , what was I thinking ? you can see my poor nutritional habits started early )......we would sit in his car and talk as my lunch time coincided w his lunch break at work....

19. Have you gained weight since then?

YES....and I ain't tellin" how much....but it is several dress sizes!!!!!

20. What did you do after graduation?

I went to my babysitting job......

21. What year did you graduate?

1970

22. Who was your Senior Prom Date?

23. Are you going/did you go to your 10 year reunion?

No- I do not have good memories of my time in high school.....so what's the point...I have bettered myself and moved on.....

Wear sunscreen! If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now:

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth। Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum। The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4:00 p।m। on some idle Tuesday।

~ Paula Deen's Holiday Baking ~

I love reading magazines and when the new issues come out I always want to but them. I am especially drawn to look at the paper-crafting/scrapbooking magazines and the decorating magazines....but by far my biggest weakness is for food magazines ( I am pretty sure that fact came as a big surprize to no one!) .....Have you seen the prices of a single issue of a magazine lately....most run in the $5.99-$7.99 range......egads.....I remember when an entire years subscription cost that.......I have had subscriptions in the past, but was annoyed when they came with the covers all dog-earred and torn .....so I mostly buy them new now.... Thank goodness for Border's and Barnes & Nobles who allow you sit down with a drink and "preview" them before buying....
While at the grocery last week I saw this issue.

Now everyone knows I love Paula Deen and I Love Holiday Magazines.....so I had to have it!! Right?.....If you are preparing to send me an email to tell me about the pitfalls of all the fattening ingredients in her recipes; don't waste time....I know and..... Frankly My Dear I Don't Give A Damn.......

There's a special section on a Christmas cookie exchange. Last year Cheryl hosted a Cookie Baking Party. We had such a great time...... it will be fun to try one of Paula's recipes this December.

HELLO FAMILY.
EDNA INSISTS I ADD SOMETHING TO THE BLOG. I TOLD HER MY LIFE IS BORING.
HERE GOES ANYWAY.........GOT UP THIS MORNING AT 6:48, WENT TO THE POTTY (whew!), LET THE DOGS OUT, LET THE CHICKENS OUT, CHECKED MY SUGAR, SORTED PILLS, ONE MORE POTTY BREAK, LEFT FOR THE "DOGGIE DAYCARE" W/ 2 LITTLE DOGS, WENT TO THE "BARN" FOR PACKING AND BOXES, PACKED UP 30 BOXES IN THIS 92 YR. OLDS HOUSE SWEATING LIKE A FAT PIG (SHE IS COOOLD AND DOESN'T HAVE AIR CONDITIONING OR SCREENS ON THE WINDOWS!), PICKED UP THE DOGS, WENT HOME, TOOK A SHOWER, FELL ASLEEP IN THE RECLINER. SEE, NOT AN EXCITING HOUR IN THERE ANYWHERE. .....Laura

Cheryl's Ramblings...

After minimal (ha!) harrassment from my mother, I am here to post on this blog. She'd really like it if you added to this blog too, so we may all keep in touch (or at least know what's going on in one another's lives...if this was myspace, we'd call it stalking, but since this is blogspot & we're all family, I guess it's called "keeping in touch" lol). Anyhow, I don't have a LOT of excess time, so my blog will be short & supplemented by photos to enhance it (a.k.a. make it look longer & more interesting!!!).
Now for the updates on my summer! I'm under the presumption that if you didn't care, you wouldn't STILL be reading this, so I'll continue...

First and foremost, we have become big (BIG!) followers of Team Gates BMX (Ethan Gates = 6-Year Old Rookie Class, Evan Gates = 3-Year Old Training Wheel Class). Let's see. I have a (fairly) new co-worker who has become a great friend. Her name is Jodi & we've been hanging out together a lot. We seem to have a great deal in common, which is nice to find in a friend! :) Recently, she & I went to her uncle's house in Lima, OH for the weekend & had a blast. He has a 1/2-acre pond & a house complete with double-sided margarita machine, ice cream machine, double deep-fryer & many extra bedrooms, so we got our food & drink (& a couple of extra pounds!!) on and crashed! Here's a picture from that weekend. As you can tell, we had a really great time. We were celebrating her cousin Lacey's 23rd birthday...Jodi & I were feeling really old in comparison to all of Lacey's friends!!!
Fortunately, as a Financial Advisor for Allstate, I get a few added added perks! I gave mom an early birthday present (FYI: her actual b-day is August 28th, send her an e-card!!!!) by taking her to the 2007 Allstate 400. I was given tickets & hospitality passes & took her as my guest...needless to say, we had a blast!!! Her man Jeff Gordon didn't win, but we were close enough for her try to get phone numbers from his pit crew...sorry Dad, she was unstoppable!!! We saw a few crazies, but then we seem to attract them wherever we go... The guy (gal??) in the checkered outfit needs mental help. Honestly, who would do that on purpose???!? In the other photo I'm sandwiched between two guys who were kind enough to carry our coolers back to mom's car for us (after we'd carried them the first 27.2 miles...I thought mom was gonna die...we'd already "stopped to sit for a spell" & still had another 19.3 miles to go...lol!). They were honestly very nice & very helpful to us, just a wee bit weird & a tad bit scary...that's not exactly a smile on my face, more of a look to say "Mom, take it quickly so I can get them away from me!!!" lol After we were safely tucked into the car & waiting...& waiting...& waiting in traffic, I snapped a picture of me with an actual smile on my face (as opposed to the semi-fearful look in the picture with the guys!). This is to show you that we were STILL having a great time after all of the walking, sweating, cheering, laughing, going deaf, walking, sweating & laughing some more. I took one of mom too, but she wouldn't e-mail it to me. Something about a WACKED OUT hairdo. I don't know what she's talking about... LOL...doesn't she know that's why I chose to TAKE that picture???!!! We (read: MOM) did decide that next year mom gets to choose the parking spot...it seems that she wasn't very satisfied with her decision to allow me to recommend the spot this year..."I know this great little spot that's really close & we won't have to pay much for parking...you can walk a little, right, mom?" Oh, right. I'll never live that down, let me tell you...the only thing I was remotely accurate on was the great price for parking!!! ROTFL!!! Oh well, we had the BEST TIME EVER & she has since posted a picture of us on her myspace page that says I'm still her favorite daughter. Go me! :) lol Now, I'm sure this goes without saying, but I will mention it anyhow: I don't need anybody making a comment in regard to this post that says I'm her ONLY daughter. You have no proof of that. Even if you did (which you don't, remember?), I'd still be her favorite. JUST ASK HER!!!!! lol GO TWO FOUR!!!!!!!!!!

What else??? Hmmm...oh yeah. I've been trying to avoid sitting around my house by myself when the boys aren't there. Instead, I've been doing fun stuff with friends...not just Jodi, I do have other friends! lol Here are a couple of pictures of us at a party @ Benn & Marci's house on 8.4.07 (not that you know them, but you should, they're fun people!)...we had a blast, as you can likely tell. Then last Friday (8.17.07) we all went to see a local band called 'Plow' at 4D's in Fort Wayne. Here are a few pictures from that as well.

New Rule: Stop giving me that pop-up ad for classmates.com! There's a reason you don't talk to people for 25 years. Because you don't particularly like them! Besides, I already know what the captain of the football team is doing these days --- mowing my lawn.

New Rule: Don't eat anything that's served to you out a window unless you're a seagull. People are acting all shocked that a human finger was found in a bowl of Wendy's chili. Hey, it cost less than a dollar. What did you expect it to contain? Lobster?

New Rule: If you need to shave and you still collect baseball cards, you're a dope. If you're a kid, the cards are keep sakes of your idols. If you're a grown man, they're pictures of men.

New Rule: Ladies, leave your eyebrows alone. Here's how much men care about your eyebrows: Do you have two of them? Good, we're done.

Let's remember the reason something was a television show in the first place is that the idea wasn't good enough to be a movie.

New Rule: When I ask how old your toddler is, I don't need to hear '27 months.' 'He's two' will do just fine. He's not a cheese. And I didn't really care in the first place.

New Rule: If you ever hope to be a credible adult and want a job that pays better than Minimum wage, then for God's sake don't pierce or tattoo every available piece of flesh. If so, then plan your future around saying, 'Do you want fries with that?'"

Blogger Beginnings

Hello Rupert Family


Having seen you all at the reunion reminded me just how hard it is to stay in touch as a family. At one time our unofficial family historian, Laura, would send out a monthly email with all the family news....I greatly enjoyed receiving it....she always had a little trivia and her great sense of humor added a lot it !
SinceI can not convince her to continue sending that ( she is not convinced anyone actually read it, so send her a little note if you did...:) Anyway, I have decided to start this blog to let you know what is going with the "family" ....If anyone wants send me a monthly update on the happenings in their lives I will post it here for all to read.

As for news from our little group:
I started my new part time job on Monday...it is about time....I was actually hired on JULY 13th !! Long story..........This is meant to be a short term job....until I find something clerical and full time. I am working for Mason's Health Care as van driver. I am driving a bus which is about the size of an airport bus or an ambulance. I transport patients from the nursing home to Dr. appointments, therapy, to and from the hospital for various tests, etc. It is a very flexable job, one week I work Mon, Wed, Fri, and the next I work Tues, Thurs, and Saturday. I job share with a gentleman named Jim. It is more physically taxing than I had realized, some of the patients are LARGE people... the first day was difficult on my back, having had disk surgery...but each day gets a little easier..and we are just greatful for the additional income for now.

We had a wonderful visit with Jacob and Autumn while they were here for the reunion.



This visit was way too short to get anything done that Mom really wanted accomplished, such as working on the three Talons we have in our yard. Getting them out of our yard is a big priority only to me...:)
Laura accompanied me to Indy last Monday to take them back to the airport. We all went to the Indianapolis Children's Museum for the day since their plane did not leave until 5:25. That was fun....I highly suggest that you with children take them....It is a bit expensive to get in, $12.50 for adults, I think $7.50 for kids. You do save a little in that you park for free and you can take a picnic lunch with you...They have a few free days a year but imagine it would be crowded. Laura and I shopped our way home and arrived back at my house just in time to answer Jake's call that they had just arrived home safely in West Palm Beach...and they had an hour and a half layover in Washington.....!! What can I say??? I know Laura will tell you that it was all ME....but she was a willing enabler....

We also stopped in Kokomo at Buffalo Wild Wings.....yummmmm....... I got started playing electromic Texas Hold Em and beat all the other players in the restaurant....I accumulated $30,750 in about an hour.....wish I could do that for real.....!!!

Our oldest grandson, Ethan, started FIRST GRADE on Wednesday.....wow, these kids are growing too fast.....

Laura & Jim have added a new member to their family.....they adopted this adorable little girl Betty Lu

She will be a great companion for Owen....Congrats to the Foley's.......
